How To Beat Spring Allergies

Posted on: April 26th, 2018 by Derek Barmer No Comments

Trees, plants and grass are releasing pollen this time of year, and with that comes the biggest trigger of seasonal allergies. Although you’re not able to fully cure allergies, there are natural and medicinal remedies you can explore to alleviate these symptoms. How do you know if you’re one of those that falls prey to relentless symptoms from allergies? An allergy specialist can help you find out through providing a skin or blood test.

If you are one of the many struggling with allergies, what are the ways to reduce the aggravating and inconvenient symptoms? There are many forms and variations of medicine – both prescription and over the counter drugs. Among these options are Nasal sprays, decongestants, Antihistamine/decongestant combos, eye drops, under the tongue immunotherapy tablets and allergy shots. If you’re looking for a more natural medicinal remedy for your allergies, nasal irrigation is a preferred choice by many.

Medicine isn’t the only method to combat allergy symptoms. There are many other ways you can try to avoid pollen. Pollen spreads quickly when the wind is blowing, so it’s recommended that you stay inside as much as you can on days when the wind is especially strong. This effort may be in vain if you have pollen accumulating INSIDE your home. Maybe it’s time to focus on your home environment and clean the air that is constantly being inhaled by you and your family members.

Dust and vacuum on a regular basis to collect and rid your home of the pollen particles floating around. Doing a monthly change of your air filters will also prevent the accumulation of dust. While cleaning pollen away is helpful, it’s best to go straight to the source of the pollen release before it even lands on your floors and furniture. When is the last time you’ve had your duct system cleaned out?

Every time your air conditioner is running this spring, it is pulling animal dander, pollen, dust, and other airborne contaminants into your duct system. The pollutants are then circulated throughout your home every time the system runs. Let Central Carolina Air Conditioning make your home more comfortable and healthy, by providing an extensive cleaning of your HVAC system. Not only will it help your allergies, or the allergies of family members, but it will also help your pocket book by saving on energy bills!

How To Organize Your Home Pantry!

Posted on: April 17th, 2018 by Derek Barmer No Comments

Organizing your home pantry can seem like a daunting task at first. Once it’s done, however, you’ll be able to access anything you need with ease. Don’t know where or how to begin?

We’ll share some some easy-to-follow steps that will help you organize and maximize all the space in your kitchen pantry!

  • Put everything in clear containers and label each container. When everything has a home, you can find whatever you’re looking for quickly.
  • Take a weekly inventory count of your pantry (this will help with your grocery list – more on that later)
  • Create racks and storage units to add more shelves and space for your food. Sometimes the existing shelving units in your pantry don’t provide enough space. It’s time to add some more! Stacking storage units or adding more racks can instantly give you the pantry space you need.
  • Add a shower organizer to the back of the pantry door. The door can often be forgotten about when it comes to your pantry. By hanging a shower organizer, you now have a home for all of your spice jars!
  • Use skirt hangers to hold your chips and keep them from going stale
  • Create a chalkboard pantry door to note your shopping list. By having everything labeled, you can easily take inventory of what you have and what you need. Once inventory is taken, create a list on your pantry door for your next errand run.
  • Combine your packets in one spot. There’s nothing more frustrating than having to rummage around to find that extra seasoning packet to spice up your dinner for tonight! Save some time and effort by collecting any loose packets and placing them in one of the storage racks or units.

Having an organized pantry brings you one step closer to an organized and efficient home. Why stop there? Make sure your whole home is efficient! Call Central Carolina Air Conditioning and we’ll check your plumbing system – including your water heater, drain pipes, exposed hot and cold water lines, faucets for leaks and ventilation systems!

Jumpstart Your Health at Home

Posted on: April 17th, 2018 by Derek Barmer No Comments

Many people resolve to prioritize their health during New Year’s resolutions. How many people actually stay on track, or write realistic goals for themselves? Health should be more about a lifestyle and long-term goals, rather than immediate fixes or diets. What comes to mind when you hear the word health? Is it proper nutrition, or more time spent in the gym? Health can be more than that. It starts with your home and the environment in which you live.

Today’s homes are built tighter for energy conservation, which results in less air circulation. This can lead to an accumulation of viruses, toxic molds, pollen and bacteria. There are a few ways you can improve the air quality and environment of your home to minimize these potential hazards.

Here are some ways that you can take measures into your own hands to create a healthier home:

  • Dust frequently. Not only does dust irritate allergy symptoms, but it can also contain particles from chemicals that have been used in your home.
  • Test your home for Radon and Lead paint. Both are linked to brain related to brain damage and cancer.
  • Eliminate – or minimize pesticides. They can lead to health problems, so it’s best to avoid them all together. A good alternative to these chemicals is “green” cleaning products. They are made without ammonia and chlorine.
  • Change out your pots and pans. If you’re still using pots or pans made with Teflon for the non-stick appeal, now is the time to switch them out. There’s a number of substitutes – anodized aluminum, cast iron, stainless steel, and enamel-coated iron.

When it comes to mold, your HVAC system can be the biggest culprit. Mold, if left untreated, can pose a serious risk to you and your family’s health. Central Carolina Air Conditioning can provide regular tune-ups to make sure that yours is in good shape! Not only will routine maintenance benefit your family’s overall health, but it will also save you money in the long run preventing your system from getting to the point of needing significant repairs.

  • Painting can instantly make anything old and dingy feel new and beautiful. You can start by painting furniture such as chairs and tables. If you feel like repainting multiple rooms in your home, this could be a good way to brighten up each space. However, you can still accomplish a remodeled look by creating a couple accent walls. This will also save you time, energy and money as opposed to painting your whole home.
  • Adding some chair rail in rooms is easier now than ever as many home improvement stores offer stick-on options!
  • Add some art to create new dimension in your main living areas. Hang pictures or paintings that tie in with the desired theme of that room. Hanging art can also cover any eye sores of hanging cords.
  • Update your Hardware on kitchen and bathroom cabinets. Show your personality and style preference by selecting a new set of hardware to instantly give your kitchen and bathroom cabinets a more modern feel!
  • Hang a mirror in a room in your home that may be particularly small. A mirror will create the illusion that your room is bigger than it really is.
